Scotdec’s work on decolonising STEM features in the latest issue of the Association for Science Education’s Primary Science journal (Issue 189).
In Five steps to decolonising STEM, our Global Learning Lead Jen Buchan, alongside Faith Bateman (WOSDEC), sets out practical starting points for teachers beginning to reflect on their approach to STEM learning. While the full article is only available to ASE members, the references that are publicly visible offer a useful insight into the thinking behind the piece. These include work on anti-racist curriculum development from CRER, Education Scotland guidance on building racial literacy, and classroom resources such as Scotdec’s global citizenship science padlet and topic planners.
The article contributes to wider professional conversations about how curriculum areas, including science, can better reflect diverse knowledge, perspectives and experiences.
