Scotdec is dedicated to strengthening Global Citizenship Education (GCE) as a core part of Learning for Sustainability. For over 30 years, we have supported educators to bring active, participatory global learning into classrooms — helping children and young people to become active citizens who understand global interdependence and act with empathy. We deliver professional learning in Anti-Racist Education (ARE) supporting the national ambition to build confidence, racial literacy and antiracist practice among Scottish educators.  

Scotdec co-created Scotland’s national ARE website, www.antiracisted.scot which provides support for educators to embed anti-racist into their classroom practice. 

We contribute to the Anti Racism in Education Programme (AREP) and recognise the strong synergies between GCE and ARE.  

Scotdec is an active member of Scotland’s International Development Alliance (SIDA), participating in both its Global Citizenship Community and its education subgroup. This work ensures that Scotland’s wider international development ambitions – including sustainability, rights, climate justice and global solidarity – are reflected within national education priorities.

Our Director, Charlotte, sits on the SIDA Board, helping connect classroom realities with national policy conversations and ensuring that the perspectives of teachers and learners help shape Scotland’s international development agenda.

Children’s rights and the UN Global Goals are central to Scotdec’s programmes, resources and advocacy. Education Scotland frames global citizenship as learning that helps children understand rights, justice and inequality, preparing them to act as ethical, empathetic citizens.

We support educators to make these connections explicit through high‑quality professional learning and practical tools that help schools link curriculum experiences to global issues, justice movements and sustainable development.
