Scotdec Director Moderates Global Citizenship Panel at SCVO Gathering

Scotdec Director Charlotte Dwyer moderated the session “Scotland in a Changing World: The Role of Global Citizenship Education” at The Gathering, Scotland’s flagship annual event for charities, voluntary organisations and the wider third sector.

The session, organised by Scotland’s International Development Alliance, brought together organisations, educators and policymakers to explore how Global Citizenship Education can help Scotland’s young people make sense of an increasingly complex and interconnected world – from climate justice and human rights to global inequality and democratic participation.

As moderator, Charlotte facilitated a rich and engaging discussion on how GCE can deepen learning, build empathy and critical thinking, and equip learners with the skills and values needed to navigate global challenges with confidence. The conversation highlighted Scotland’s long-standing commitment to GCE through Learning for Sustainability, national policy support, and collaboration across local and international partners.

We welcomed the opportunity for Scotdec to contribute to this national conversation and to help shape how Global Citizenship Education continues to evolve across Scotland’s education landscape.
