The new antiracisted.scot English and Literacy materials are now available, centred around a purpose‑built Anti‑Racist Literacy Framework that can be applied to any text. This new tool supports teachers to weave anti‑racist education into everyday English and literacy learning by prompting critical thinking about identity, power and representation.
The framework is supported by a suite of practical classroom resources for 1st – 4th Curriculum for Excellence levels, offering adaptable activities and genre‑based learning that can slot directly into existing planning. It was developed in-house by Scotdec Global Learning Adviser Jennifer Buchan with the guidance and expertise of Dr. Navan Govender and Titilayo Farukuoye. We’re especially grateful to the young people and teachers at Dens Road Primary School (Dundee), Cuthbertson Primary School (Glasgow), Inverkip Primary School (Inverclyde) and Drumchapel High School (Glasgow) for trialling the resource and providing such thoughtful feedback during its development. Amal Azzudin led this important scoping work with young people.
Funded by the Scottish Government and created by Scotland’s Development Education Centres in collaboration with educators, writers and young people across Scotland, the resource offers a clear, flexible approach to embedding anti‑racist practice in literacy.
