Open to all Scottish Secondary school teachers of Maths, English, Modern Languages, Science or Social Subjects, Issue to action will connect you with a network of teachers across Scotland and equip you with the skills to teach your subject through a global citizen lens.

You’ll come away having undertaken a minimum of 12 hours of CLPL and a subject-specific toolkit of classroom activities, along with inspiration, ideas, a network of like-minded practitioners and practical activities that will empower you to teach through a global citizenship lens.

All resources you will engage with have been developed by real Scottish secondary school teachers of Maths, English, Science, Modern Languages and Social Subjects, working in partnership with global citizenship experts.

We will come together for a face-to-face meet-up and connect with other teachers of your subject who are passionate about embedding global citizenship education in their practice.

Course Timeline

Over 10 weeks, you will explore how to meaningfully engage learners in your subject through one of three key GCE themes: climate change, migration, and gender equality.

You’ll discover how to support pupil voice in your classroom and the ways you can encourage young people to take meaningful action for change. A module tailored to your subject will connect you with a network of like-minded practitioners based in schools across Scotland on their own GCE journey, on-hand to share learning and contribute to discussion online throughout.

Scotdec can provide you with a mentor – a teacher with subject-specific global citizenship who will be on hand to provide you with guidance, support, and encouragement.

You’ll shape the focus of your unique classroom-based task, designed by you to try out your learning at the end of the course. In the end, we’ll share the learning via webinar – exchanging ideas and discussing how to take forward global citizenship education in your subject.

The digital aspect of the learning provides you with flexibility – this course is designed to fit around and complement your day-to-day practice and create an interactive and participatory medium for all teachers involved.

To cover any travelling and accommodation required, there will be a small amount of funding available.
