Scotdec welcomes the announcement that the UK will rejoin the Erasmus+ programme, reopening opportunities for international partnership and collaboration from 2027.
Before Brexit, Erasmus+ played an important role in supporting Scotdec’s work in global citizenship education and youth engagement. Through Erasmus+ partnerships, we collaborated with organisations across Europe to share practice, develop inclusive approaches to learning, and strengthen youth work and education in Scotland.
Our previous Erasmus+ projects included Inscool, a multi‑country schools partnership focused on inclusive values and rights‑based learning, and PULSE Youth, which brought together youth work organisations from across Europe to explore active pedagogy, inclusion and global citizenship. These projects enabled long‑term relationships, mutual learning and meaningful exchange that benefited educators, youth workers and young people alike.
The abscence of Erasmus+ has been felt across the education and youth sectors, particularly by organisations committed to inclusion, participation and global justice. As the UK prepares to re‑enter the programme, Scotdec looks forward to rebuilding European partnerships and supporting educators and young people in Scotland to engage with high‑quality international collaboration once again.
